He is currently a Professor of Surface Engineering & Micromechanics at Robert Gordon University (RGU), Aberdeen. He is an experimental researcher and specialises in advanced materials and processes at the intersection of surface science & engineering and multi-scale mechanics. It includes the study and application of technologies to enhance material and structural/functional performance, reliability and sustainability for range of applications. He has experience in the application of various sensing methods, which includes sensor-based instrumented mechanical testing, process & condition monitoring, and micromechanical behaviour analysis of materials.
